'St.Finian's is an inclusive school for all children. The staff are so kind and caring; they go above and beyond.' Parent Survey, Oct 25.

As parents of an SEN child, we feel listened to and fully supported. We chose St Finian’s because of the faith values it upholds and this is very much being shown in the support and care both our son and we, as parents are receiving. Thankyou to everyone.' Parent Letter, Mar 25.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

St.Finian's is an inclusive school, committed to promoting high standards of education for all children. Some children need extra support and a tailored curriculum specific to their needs; this may be different from their peers. The image below (Interactive Institute for Social Change IISC) illustrates our philosophy at St.Finian's, through which we strive to understand and to provide for every child's individual needs. To achieve this, we work alongside the child and engage with parents through an open and on-going dialogue. We call upon the help of SEN professionals and colleagues in the local authority (LA) to support us through referrals, outreach visits and advice (e.g. Cognition and Learning Team CALT, Education Psychologists, Autism Team). Some children need specialist provision through an education health care plan (EHCP); in such cases, we are supported by the LA SEN Team, to create plans for individual children; these are reviewed on an annual basis.

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) is Miss Ohanian. Our governor with responsibiliy for special needs and inclusion is Mrs Moore.

Our chair of governors is Mr Roberts. All can be contacted via the school office on: 01635 865 925.

Our ELSA co-ordinator (Emotional Literacy Support Worker) is Mrs Heaver; she also works with our SEN children, supporting their emotional needs and well being.

equality vs equity

Special Educational Needs or Disability (SEND) provision in school aims to help our SEN children to achieve the best possible outcomes through:

  • Identifying at an early stage the need for additional support.
  • Developing individual learning provision for children with SEND.
  • Monitoring and evaluating progress.
  • Helping parents to support their children by providing information and guidance on how they can help at home.
  • Organising specialist services from outside the school (multi-agency working) where necessary.
