St Finian’s School Mission Statement

St. Finian’s Primary School is an inclusive school with high aspirations for every child. Our aim is to enable every child to flourish and to achieve their highest potential. We ensure this by tailoring support to individual needs- academically, emotionally and spiritually.

Where children experience disadvantage, we offer support in a variety of different ways, including through Pupil Premium Funding.

What is Pupil Premium Funding?

Each year schools receive Pupil Premium funding (PPG) to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged children.  Schools can use Pupil Premium funding to provide direct support tailored to the needs of individual eligibe children; it can also be used to support wider groups of children with identified needs.  Schools are required to publish their pupil premium strategy if they have 6 or more eligible pupils (DfE Using pupil premium: guidance for school leaders March 2023).

In the year 2025-26, St.Finian's School has 6 eligible pupils. 

How is Pupil Premium Funding used?

The top priority for spending the PPG (Pupil Premium Grant) is supporting the quality of teaching. This ensures that disadvantaged groups make at least expected progress in reading, writing and maths (RWM). Pupil Premium strategies may also relate to non-academic factors, including improving attendance, behaviour, social and emotional support.

The EEF (Education Endowment Fund) recommend a tiered approach to spending the pupil premium grant received by schools:

  • Supporting the quality of teaching (CPD, recruitment and retention, support for early careers teachers)
  • Targeted academic support (interventions, small group tuition, 1:1 support)
  • Wider school strategies (behaviour, attendance, clubs)

At St. Finian’s School, the Pupil Premium Grant is spent through delivery of a number of approaches:

  • Quality training for teachers e.g. SEN,  positive behaviour strategies, curriculum subjects 
  • Training for teachers in curriculum pedagogy (e.g. maths, reading) to facilitate successful learning and progression for all
  • Funding for extra curricular clubs and activities
  • ELSA Support (social & emotional)
  • Purchasing specialist materials and resources
  • Subsidising the cost of school trips, visits, extra curricular lessons e.g. music
